“Traveller Interview” With Anaika

This week, Traveller Interview features Anaika. Based in India, Anaika started her travels when she was 3 months old. She works full-time while saving money to explore and experience new countries and cities, off-beat weekend getaways or any beach-side town that she can get to.

Go check out her colorful Instagram gallery at anaikaj. And in the meantime, I hope you enjoy her answers.

What’s your favorite place so far?

Amongst all the countries I’ve been to, my absolute favorites have been Mexico and Croatia, both of which have amazing culture, friendly locals, affordable accommodation & food and incredible beaches! The Cenotes in Mexico and Plitvice in Croatia have been experiences like no other.

What can’t you travel without?

Honestly, that would have to be my phone, not just because it’s my only means to take pictures and capture each experience, but also because I love reading traveller reviews on the go and looking for local bars and secret eateries. In Sri Lanka, we found a tiny little shack up on a cliff with two tables and a 180 degree view of the ocean and of course the absolute best food! All thanks to travellers reviews.

What destination have you found to be overrated?

Greece was truly incredible, beautiful and breathtaking, however it was also super expensive and not all the beaches were too swim friendly.

What’s the favorite thing you’ve bought during your travels?

I love buying anklets wherever I go. Right now I’m wearing one which I bought in Masai Mara and another which I bought in Hampi, India

What’s the best piece of travel advice you’ve received?

Try new experiences and soak up the culture wherever you go- Courtesy my Mom!

Do you prefer solo travel or with someone else?

I haven’t done enough solo travel to really be the best judge, however you meet a lot more people while travelling solo. On the other hand when you experience something that takes your breathe away and you can’t put in words, you want the people closest to you to share that with.

What is the title of your future biography?

Blame it on my gypsy soul

If you had to live in one, and only one, city for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?

Well if I could I would buy an island and settle down there but to be more realistic the one city I would pick would be the one I was born in. Vizag is on the east coast of India where you can swim in the most beautiful beaches, eat the most delightful seafood, drive with the hills on one side and the ocean on the other and meet the most hospitable people.

What is the superpower you most want?

To be able to fly! (Can you imagine, no more airfare ever! )

Most annoying trait of fellow travelers?

To sleep in late and waste the day!

What’s your favorite quote?

Life is for deep kisses, strange adventures, midnight swims and rambling conversations. (Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)

Festival that you would most like to go to that you haven’t yet?

Either Defected or Love International in Croatia

Travel tips to fellow travelers?

Even if you’ve researched a place and know your entire itinerary, talk to the locals and other travellers to really know what to do, see and experience. Happy Travels!
