How breathtaking it sounds to not celebrate your birthday in the same manner you did the last year! We decided to take a break and celebrate the birthdays of 2 amazing boys of our travel family. Needless to say, it took almost an entire week to take a decision. Himachal Pradesh is so grand and there are so many places to see, it becomes a real challange to stop at one place while trying to fix the itinerary. After endless talks on Bir, Billing, Khajjiar, Mcleodganj, Dharamshala and Dalhousie, the team made the final decision. This time, it’s going to be Bir and Billing.
Quoting from Wiki: Bir is a village located in the west of the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. Bir is a noted centre for ecotourism, spiritual studies and meditation. Bir is also home to a Tibetan refugee settlement with several Buddhist monasteries and a large stupa.Bir Billing is going to host 1st paragliding world cup in India in the month of October 2015. Paragliding takeoff site is Billing which is at the altitude of 2400 mt from sea level. Flight from Billing lands at Bir, Chougan area at the altitude of 1400 mt from sea level. This flight varies from 15 to 75 mins.
Bir has a rich heritage, for which you would have to get into detailed History. I won’t talk about it here, considering my knowledge and interest about History.
Route taken : Delhi – Chandigarh – Ropar – Nangal (near Bhakra Dam) – Una – Kangra-Palampur –Baijnath – BIR (Colonel’s Resort) 🙂
Distance from Delhi: 500 Kms approx.
The trip started at 12 AM, Saturday and it was again a road trip. We are in love with the road and the journey keeps on calling us back. The endless talks on the roads makes it real challenging to avoid road trips. To us all, the road is ours and we endeavor to make it real good with our crazy talks, sometimes we laugh and sometimes its all argument, all healthy though. Touchwood, we are all amazing friends and are quite accustomed to each others giggles and frowns 😉 We have each other.
We stayed at Colonel’s Resort at Bir. Above pictures will give you a glimpse into the rooms. I assure you, the rooms are much better looking and comfortable than what you see in this picture. You got to be there to experience the grandeur of the property. There are dogs and horses walking in the property surrounded by their lustrous tea estate. It was a comfortable stay and here I am showing you some pictures from Bir. Most of them are from the resort and places nearby the resort. I will cover the world famous paragliding site-Billing, in my next post.
The ladies is the pictures proudly posed for me and I proudly clicked their pictures. They are hardworking and happy women, a perfect example where everyone works hard and lives in peace.
I hope you liked the pictures, do leave a comment 🙂
Have a great week ahead, will post the Day 2 experience soon. Take Care you all!!!
Lovely pictures!! That resort seems reason good enough to get there!! Looking forward to your next installment of pictures of para gliding!
Thank you Magiceye 🙂 We went to the paragliding site but unfortunately we were a day short of the official start date of the paragliding season. The hosts at the resort said that during the paragliding season, the sky is filled with colorful gliders. The world cup for paragliding is scheduled for 23rd October (if I remember correctly), and Billing would be hosting it. The resort was mind-blowing. We loved every bit.
