Delhi to Nagau and back – 1

When mornings start early

And the white sheet of fog disappears

The woolens slowly start settling in the storage beds

Silently, the summers have arrived

And when the mountains call your name

You don’t stop till you get your dose of the mountain air.

(My thoughts as I start writing about our journey)

This time the destination was Nagau, which is a village pretty close to Chakrata, Uttarakhand. The overall distance was close to 350 kms from Delhi. We took the below route while driving to the destination-

Delhi- Panipat – Yamuna Nagar -Jagadhri- Paonta Sahib – Chakrata – Nagau

The road from Chakrata to Nagau was beaten up. We saw laborers at several places fixing the road after the landslides. Though we weren’t stranded at any place, we had to slow down considerably to be safe. It was definitely a lesser traveled road as almost every local took the second route (mentioned below), but the scenic view was awesome. You could see the nearly dry Yamuna River at a distance, while you drive through her and slowly start spiraling uphill. The river seems to be guiding you all along.

While returning we took a different route to escape the damaged road, and definitely it was a good decision-

Nagau – Kalsi -Dak Patthar – Vikas Nagar – Paonta Sahib- Jagadhri – Yamuna Nagar- NH1

The second route was way too good as compared to the first one in terms of time saving and road condition. If you are driving to the same destination, I would definitely suggest the second one. It was an awesome ride, not even a single pit hole was to be found, though you have to be careful with the twists and turns the road has to offer.

Now, let me tell you something about the place. Nagau is a sub location of Chakrata, district Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The resort we booked was Ramtal Resort, located at an arms distance of Ramtal Gardens. Ramtal Gardens  is a small scenic horticulture garden near a pond and is one of the best picnic spots in Chakrata. Besides being a picnic spot, this place also beds a big ground where you can indulge in some sports like football and cricket, or just walk up to the higher grounds to see mesmerizing sunsets like this…

This place is around 40 kms from Chakrata. As expected, this place is very scenic, encircled by beautifully carved mountains. The sailing clouds add to the beauty of this place. While early mornings are blessed by spectacular sunrises, the nights are graced by starry skies accompanied by the glorious paintings the moon makes in alliance with the clouds.

I wished the days would never end while I was there. The days were warm and pleasant while nights were extremely chilled. Be sure to carry your heaviest and warmest garments for the chilly nights if you are the kind who cannot be restricted to the tents/rooms. Here are the pictures I clicked from the drive. Pictures of the resort and the surrounding will be up soon. You can expect pictures like the one below in the upcoming posts 🙂  Keep reading and liking 🙂
